CSV to Excel,
without uploading anything.

Drop a file in, pick a format, download the result. The conversion happens inside this page, on your own machine — the file is never sent to a server, and there is no account to create.

.csv · .tsv · .txt · .xlsx · .xls · .ods

Preview shows the first 20 rows. Numbers and dates are converted with their type kept where the source allows it. Files above roughly 20 MB may be slow, because everything is done by your browser rather than a server.

How it works

Short version: the same library that most online converters run on their server is running here, in your tab.

Nothing leaves your machine

There is no upload endpoint on this page. Once the page has loaded you can even turn off your internet connection and it still converts.

Encoding that actually survives

Chinese Windows exports often come out as GBK. Pick GBK, or leave it on detect, and the characters arrive intact instead of turning into question marks.

Separators are detected

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe are counted on the first line and the most likely one wins. You can still force a separator on the way out.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no daily limit, no watermark. It is here because people who need a spreadsheet converter usually need spreadsheets too, and some of them end up buying the template set below.

Do you keep my data?

No. There is nothing to keep — the file is read from your disk into the page's memory and never transmitted. You can confirm this in your browser's network panel: after the initial page load, no further requests carry your data.

Why does my CSV look wrong in Excel?

Two usual causes. The file is GBK encoded but opened as UTF-8, or it is semicolon separated and your Excel expects commas. Both are handled above: choose the encoding, then export as .xlsx, which sidesteps the separator question entirely.

What are the limits?

There is no artificial cap. The real ceiling is your browser's memory, and above about 20 MB it will start to feel sluggish. Very large jobs are better done on a desktop machine.

What file types go in and out?

In: .csv, .tsv, .txt, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls, .xlsb, .ods. Out: .xlsx, .csv, .tsv. When a workbook has several sheets, the one shown in the preview is the one exported.

If the converter is only half of what you need

Converting a file is easy. Building the sheet that then does the arithmetic is the part that eats an afternoon.
